House Democrats Set To Move Bill After Accord With Blue Dogs, Liberals Objecting
House Democrats on Wednesday made a deal with fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats on a health reform bill that "would reduce the overall cost of the package and ensure more funding for rural hospitals, concessions that could allow the Energy and Commerce Committee to finish its consideration of the legislation," The Washington Post reports. The deal will be considered on the House floor no earlier than September, according to several lawmakers. House lawmakers plan to conclude their markup of the legislation in the Energy Committee Thursday.

Genetic Risk Factor For Testicular Cancer Discovered By Penn Researchers
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have uncovered variation around two genes that are associated with an increased risk of testicular cancer. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men, and its incidence among non-Hispanic Caucasian men has doubled in the last 40 years -- it now affects seven out of 100,000 white men in the United States each year. The discovery, published in the May 31, 2009 online issue of Nature Genetics, is the first step toward understanding which men are at high risk of disease.

ACSM Addresses U.S. And World Business Community At NASDAQ Stock Market Close

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the world"s largest sports medicine and exercise organization, rang the closing bell at the NASDAQ stock market last week (Wednesday, May 6), using the international platform to promote the health benefits of physical activity, especially for businesses and employers in the U.S. and worldwide. As one of the world leaders in the science and medical aspects of health promotion and disease prevention related to physical activity, a delegation of ACSM health experts participated in the closing bell ceremony in New York City and addressed corporate leaders gathered at NASDAQ and worldwide through business media coverage of the event. Remarks by ACSM President Mindy Millard-Stafford, Ph.D., FACSM focused on the profound health benefits of physical activity, as well as ACSM"s commitment to improving health in order to contribute to stronger economies and countries worldwide.
