CQ Examines House Foreign Affairs Committee Outline To Overhaul U.S. Foreign Aid
Congressional Quarterly examines a "three-page concept paper" issued by the House Foreign Affairs Committee that lays out a plan to overhaul U.S. foreign aid. The committee suggests "giving the administration greater flexibility to control aid in exchange for greater public oversight and a performance- and need-driven allocation system," the news service writes. "The plan would reorganize aid programs around seven purposes, including "reducing poverty and alleviating human suffering," "supporting human rights and democracy," and "expanding prosperity through trade and investment,"" according to CQ. Children's Hospitals And Clinics Of Minnesota Receive Level III Trauma Designation
The Minnesota Department of Health recently designated Children"s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota"s two hospital locations as Level III Trauma Hospitals. Children"s of Minnesota has the sixth busiest pediatric emergency department in the nation with over 84,000 visits per year, and already treats around 450 trauma cases each year. Children"s voluntarily participated in the intense designation process, which included an external review of the hospitals" res and capabilities to care for young trauma patients. Children"s met the required standards of commitment, clinical and equipment res, and staff training.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement tonight on the vote by the House Energy and Commerce Committee to pass the America"s Affordable Health Choices Act, the third House committee to pass the bill this month. The House Ways and Means Committee and Education and Labor Committee approved the bill earlier this month: "For more than 60 years, we have tried as a nation to make quality, affordable health insurance coverage available to all Americans. Tonight"s vote marks the next step in the most successful effort in our history. "All three House committees with jurisdiction over health care have now passed health insurance reform legislation. The reforms now advancing to a vote in the full House of Representatives reflect the diversity of our Members. Our legislation includes the best ideas to build on what works and fix what"s broken in our health care system. "Our reforms will hold insurance companies accountable, offering stable coverage and lower costs-even if you get sick, have a pre-existing condition such as diabetes or cancer, or lose or change your job.
