Kessler Foundation Research Center Study Provides Insight Into One Of The Most Challenging Symptoms Following A Traumatic Brain Injury
A recent study by Kessler Foundation Research Center published in Brain Injury, the official journal of the International Brain Injury Association, uncovered the possible cause of cognitive fatigue in patients suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI). Cognitive fatigue has been shown to be one of the most challenging symptoms following TBI, greatly affecting everyday life activities such as work and school. The study also addressed the difficult task of measuring cognitive fatigue through the use of functional MRI (fMRI), an advanced imaging technology. In addition to civilians with TBI, methodology from the study could potentially be used in VA Hospitals to improve the lives of the estimated 300,000 U.S. Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who suffer from brain injury. Cognitive fatigue is a highly prevalent condition, with 73 percent of TBI patients reporting significant levels of fatigue even five years post-injury.

New EPI Healthcare Study By June O'Neill Shows Uninsured 'Crisis' Wildly Overestimated
The Employment Policies Institute (EPI) released a new study which shows that the widely employed estimate of 47 million uninsured Americans is a misleading representation of the problem. The study, authored by Drs. June and David O"Neill of Baruch College and City University of New York, shows that more than 43 percent, or 18 million, of uninsured Americans ages 18-64 could likely afford health coverage and are actually "voluntarily uninsured." June O"Neill served as Director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) from 1995-1999.

Pelosi Statement On Energy And Commerce Committee Passage Of Health Insurance Reform Legislation

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement tonight on the vote by the House Energy and Commerce Committee to pass the America"s Affordable Health Choices Act, the third House committee to pass the bill this month. The House Ways and Means Committee and Education and Labor Committee approved the bill earlier this month: "For more than 60 years, we have tried as a nation to make quality, affordable health insurance coverage available to all Americans. Tonight"s vote marks the next step in the most successful effort in our history. "All three House committees with jurisdiction over health care have now passed health insurance reform legislation. The reforms now advancing to a vote in the full House of Representatives reflect the diversity of our Members. Our legislation includes the best ideas to build on what works and fix what"s broken in our health care system. "Our reforms will hold insurance companies accountable, offering stable coverage and lower costs-even if you get sick, have a pre-existing condition such as diabetes or cancer, or lose or change your job. Americans deserve no less. "In the coming weeks, we will work to produce a strong piece of legislation that the House will approve in September." Office of the Speaker of the House
